Upon checking in, we were informed that our room had been "upgraded" to an Executive Room. The only problem was this room had 2 elevators immediately adjacent to it, and both elevators were in constant use until around 2:30 in the AM (up & down from Top of the Mark) Trying to sleep was difficult. Not a good experience.

The Intercontinental Mark Hopkins is a wonderful hotel - the location is a problem. San Fran was so busy, we couldn't catch a Cable Car - as promised. We walked to Pier 39 and had to take a cab back - Cable Cars full again - and we wasted $* on a pass. We walked to Union Square, and walked back - you would have to be a long-distance runner to ace that walk! The Top of the Mark was so disappointing. Not the view! You can't beat that. I was expecting a classy, elegant, quiet atmosphere - Not so! It was so noisy up there - we just snapped some pictures and went across the street for a nice dinner. I'm glad we saw it all - there is so much history, but I will never stay on Nob Hill again.

This hotel is located at the very top of the Hill. If you cannot walk up steep hills, do not stay there. The staff is dreadful and the conciergie have no idea what they are doing. They didn't even know the times of the cable car system and let's not even talk about the restuarants they recommend .For the price, there are much better hotels around the square. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

This hotel exceeded everything we might have hoped for in a hotel, both in terms of beauty, service, cleanliness, and friendliness. We were allocated a room on the 2nd floor, and my husband went to talk to Mike, the manager, to tell him it was much smaller than we had hoped for. Since the hotel was booked full that evening, we had to stay there that night, but Mike said he would make it up to us the following night for the rest of the trip. We were appointed the Nob Hill Room on the 14th floor from then on out. Magnificent view-you could look out to see the bay in the distance, with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island in the distance. Housekeeping, the bellman, the front desk staff, and the server at Top of the Mark, were all wonderful. The Hopkins carries off professionalism in the highest manner, while still being very warm and friendly. We will most definitely stay there again!

My wife and I spent a three day weekend in San Francisco staying at the Mark Hopkins. The atmosphere of the hotel was from another time and was so elegant as to be almost surreal. The service was impeccable. A highlight of the hotel stay was cocktails at the Top of the Mark looking out into the night through the fog. For us the best part of the experience was the location of the hotel. We walked to everything and probably covered six miles over the weekend. We found interesting things we didn't know existed in every direction. The hotel was close enough for us to walk to shopping, theater, restaurants, tourist attractions and several neighborhoods with interesting architecture. This is one great hotel, but all the surprises just outside are even better.
