This hotel was just OK. The reason it stays in business is location location location. The walls and windows are paper thin. It is not a romantic hotel. It is a place to keep your stuff while you are out exploring. I booked the hotel and of course it was not the kind of place my wife would have chosen. However, it was cheap and down the street from a Muni station. For a cheap hotel, it was good. They do not have any ammenties other than soap and the shower has a shampoo dispenser. If you forgot your toothbrush, there is a 7-11 down the street.

Stayed for a week during Christmas. The biggest take away is the hotel’s prime location. Union Square, Chinatown, Financial District and North Beach are all within walking distance. Fisherman’s Wharf is not too far either. Because of its location, there are near endless selections of restaurants, including various ethnic cuisines. Most of all for those not too familiar with San Francisco, the surrounding area appears to be pretty secure even into the late evening. The hotel’s amenities are very basic, about what you would expect given the low room rates in such a high cost city (probably one of the two most expensive cities in the country). Staffs generally friendly and helpful, especially during the evening (perhaps the hotel not as busy). Also, plenty of northern CA tour excursions (Napa, Carmel, etc) to choose from.

If you're looking for a hotel geared towards business travelers, or filled with amenities don't stay here. This hotel is bare bones, however the friendliness of the staff can't be beat. The cleanliness is above average, the price is fantastic, and the location just can't be beat. Spent a week in g this hotel with my wife, and the only thing we missed was a coffee maker. Of course with a Starbucks every 50 feet it wasn't a huge inconvenience. From this hotel we walked to Fisherman's Warf in 25 minutes...all downhill. Of course we could have taken a bus, but why? The walk was great. The trolley is 2 blocks away, ChinaTown is as close as the entrance door to the hotel, and Union Square is 7 minutes away via your choice of public transportation. The room we were in had 1 queen size bed, a desk with high speed internet, a bureau, a 32 inch LCD tv with cable, and a bath with shower. No safe in the room, no coffee maker, and not much left over room. To me the true test of a hotel's service is how they handle complaints. All personnel were extremely pleasant and helpful. I never take chances on bed linens so on my first night I always ask for all new. This hotel had no problem with that, the manager went to the laundry room and got them within 3 minutes, while I waited. When the internet went down, I told them, and with 20 minutes it was working. They never questioned my needs, just satisfied them. A great place, I would recommend to anyone!

I was disappointed the description located this hotel in Union Square are, and although not far from it, it is really located beyond the dragon gate of China Town. I decided to stay because the room was clean and and the front desk personnel were helpful and did not push any outside service at all -they answered and helped with what was asked- no more, no less. Next time I will try to stay at a different place. If you need a conveniently located, inexpensive place, and plan to use the room just to sleep, I can recommend this place for you.
